Does my new scooter need to be registered?
ekoRIDE scooters must be registered as a new vehicle with the DVLA, you will need to complete a V55/4 application form which is available at your local DVLA office.

The form looks to complicated, can I have help to complete it?
ekoRIDE will send you a pack with your scooter containing all the relevant forms and a stamped addressed envelope. The forms will already be completed on your behalf, please then refer to the remaining simple steps enclosed within pack which need to be completed by yourself before you send off to DVLA.

Is there a cost to register my scooter?
Yes, the DVLA currently charge £55.

Is it illegal to ride my scooter without registering it with the DVLA?
It is against the law to ride your ekoRIDE scooter on the road without it being fully registered.

How do I get my number plate?
Please contact ekoride once registered and we can then send you the plates by post.
Do I need to tax my scooter?
Electric scooters are exempt from road tax however you are still permitted to display a tax disc on your ekoRIDE scooter. These are free of charge and are available from the DVLA.

Does my scooter require an MOT?
Yes, on the 3rd anniversary and then every year thereafter.
Does my scooter require Insurance?
Your scooter must be fully insured using a reputable insurance company like Rampdale. Insurers will predominantly look at your ekoRIDE scooter as the same classification as a 50cc motorbike.
Do I need to wear a helmet?
You are legally responsible to wear a motorbike helmet at all times when riding your ekoRIDE scooter.
Can I ride my scooter without L Plates?
If you hold a full driving licence and have done since before February 2001 you are eligible to ride an ekoRIDE scooter without L plates and without taking any further tests. However, It is strongly recommended that you complete a one day CBT course (Compulsory Basic Training) prior to riding your new scooter.
I have recently obtained a full driving licence, do I need L Plates for my scooter?
If you hold a full driving licence but it was issued after February 2001 you are not eligible to ride an ekoRIDE scooter without completing a one day CBT course (Compulsory Basic Training). Once the CBT has been successfully completed then you are eligible to ride an ekoRIDE scooter without L Plates.
I have a provisional licence, can I ride a scooter?
If you do not hold a full driving licence but hold a provisional motorcycle / moped driving licence then you are legally bound to undertake a one day CBT course (Compulsory Basic Training). After successfully completing your CBT course you will be eligible to ride an ekoRIDE scooter but you are legally bound to ride your scooter with L plates.

How much is a CBT course?
CBT courses (Compulsory Basic Training) are usually one day courses and cost approx £70. A CBT course is valid for 2 years. Motorcycle training centres can be found in the Yellow Pages.
Does my ekoRIDE scooter require any maintenance?
Your new scooter is electric and has very few moving parts therefore there is virtually no maintenance required, however brakes, tyres, lights and other parts that involve wear and tear do need to be checked on a regular basis. The user guide will provide tips on maintaining your scooter.
Is there a warranty with my ekoRIDE scooter?
Yes a warranty is provided, please see details in terms and conditions.
Where can I get parts from?
Parts can be directly purchased from ekoRIDE.
How much does my scooter cost to run?
Your scooter will typically cost around 15p for a full charge.
What is the range of my scooter per charge?
On a full charge also depending on weight and terrain the max range will be up to 45 miles.
Will I have to pay a congestion charge on my scooter?
Currently not.
How much does it cost to deliver my ekoRIDE scooter to my house?
The delivery charge of a scooter to mainland UK is £60, please enquire for outside of the mainland.
